This video is part of a series about climate change supported by Breakthrough Energy - a coalition founded by Bill Gates, that is working to expand clean-energy investment and support the innovations that will lead the world to net-zero carbon emissions.

Since the Industrial Revolution, humans have released over 1.5 trillion tonnes of carbon dioxide or CO2 into the earth's atmosphere. In the year 2019 we were still pumping out around 37 billion more. That’s 50% more than the year 2000 and almost three times as much as 50 years ago. And it’s not just CO2. We’re also pumping out growing volumes of other greenhouse gases such as methane and nitrous oxide. Combining all of our greenhouse gases, we’re emitting 51 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents each year.
And emissions keep rising - but they need to get down to 0!

This calculating way is totally unfair , China is the world factory, they produce products for people around the world, but the number of emission is held accountable by Chinese only. the excessive emission is for the high quality of life of developed countries instead of Chinese themselves.

I expected better science from this channel. It is not science fact that lowering our CO2 emissions will cause only good things to happen. It is science fact that lowering atmospheric CO2 levels to 0 would sterilize the planet. Because this video relies upon the assumption that lowering atmospheric CO2 will "fix climate change" it is not scientifically accurate and sadly presents inconclusive information as conclusive fact. Science does not know the ideal atmospheric CO2 level for humans on earth. Without that, efforts to regulate it are not much more than human generated climate change. Said another way: More anthropogenic climate change is not a solution to anthropogenic climate change. They are the same thing.

Solar power is much more economic than fossil fuels when it comes to producing energy, people have just been unwilling or unable to invest in new infrastructure. As the price for solar continues to decrease, the amount of investors will increase, and more and more places will be powered by solar arrays. The resource extraction industry as a whole will shrink as the need for fossil fuels fades, but we still need more automotive manufactures to back and develop electric vehicles. Most importantly we need to decrease cattle population as the emissions caused by such a large meat and dairy industry are insane. Methane bad.

What this video doesn't get is that modernity and progress is made possible by machines. Machines use a combustion engine, a steam engine or some form of engine that burns fossil fuel. There is no other technology more optimal than fossil fuel at the moment. If there is it should be adopted to alleviate the climate problem. But the choice governments are asked to take is hard. They are asked to select between a really hot planet or a middle age type existence for their nations without fossil fuel engines.

and how about the livestock sector? Especially the rich west consumes meat, dairy, and so on, and to sustain that demand the livestock sector has to get bigger. the livestock sector is the number 1 cause of deforestation of the rainforest, and the number 1 cause of ocean pollution. Producing all of our meat and animal products, isnt just unethical, but it causes as much pollution as all CO2 Emissions of every transport - worldwide. Also methan and nitrous oxide is much much worse than just regular CO2, so the biggest changes could be done by, well just being a vegan. All of us, or at least everyone who consumes meat is quite responsible for the major pollution of the planet.

16 timer siden
viktor1496
viktor1496

All agricultural emissions including livestock and all plant based farming is around 25% of our total emissions in Co2 equivalence. Eating less meat helps but it's not even CLOSE to enough. And you can actually be a worse polluter by being vegan depending on which foods you eat. Local chicken is still better than avocados that had to be shipped halfway across the world and for which forests are being cut down

EVERYONE is responsible for climate change. By driving an essentially oil-powered vehicle, you are driving demand for oil extraction and lowering the demand for better options. By buying a heavily-packaged item, you are driving demand for heavily-packaged items, which is typically packaging made from oil and lowering demand for items packaged better. By buying cheap Chinese products if you are outside of China, you are driving demand for cheap Chinese products and contributing to the pollution relating to its manufacture, packaging, and transport. When that item fails in short order, you typically can't repair it, so you toss it, increasing the amount of trash humans have to deal with. There is no easy solution for climate change. There is no magic pill to make it all better. Everyone has to do their part, and nobody wants to make those sacrifices. What kind of sacrifices? Things like migrating our energy production from fossil fuels to renewable energy (which will probably be more expensive) is one. Every bit of energy used that is produced from fossil fuels contributes to global warming. Migrating to renewable energy will help. Another sacrifice is demanding affordable electric cars. There are a lot of people out there who love cars, the fossil fuel gulping horsepower machines. These vehicles contribute a lot to global warming. These people have to learn to love electric cars. The general population needs to learn to love electric cars. The reason electric cars are so pricey is that the demand is low. Mass-produced, electric cars could be quite affordable. Proper recycling of electric cars would also be needed. Another sacrifice is one of comfort. You don't need your home at 65F in summer and 80F in winter. You will do just fine in a home at 75F in summer and 60F in winter. That change will help a lot. If the electric grid is mostly powered by renewables, then it would make more sense to switch your home climate control to all-electric. Another sacrifice is one of needless spending. You don't need a dozen shoes or a hundred shirts. You will do fine with enough clothing to last one week. Having a small home vegetable garden instead of a bare lawn will also help. You get fresh healthy produce and help prevent the need to package and transport some produce long distances. A life of moderation will help slow or even reverse climate change. However, it is not the only thing that needs to be done. If EVERYONE did their part, we would do fine. The problem is, nobody wants to make those sacrifices. So, we are doomed. Get used to it being hotter than Satans left testicle and get used to lots of severe weather and a massive decline in wildlife and plants. Better get used to more bugs and pests. We could learn a thing or two from Japan though. Just saying.

Asking and figuring out who is the cause is not the whole solution, it requires global participation from countries, regions, and even individuals to act in the way that can reduce the factors that cause that problem. And for that, we can use this information to decide the amount of effort for each country should provide. And in my point of view, that steps can be done only by organising a global government or a union includes the main effecting countries.
