f=m(x)a we know that the mass is 40 kilos or 88.75 pounds in the US therefore to find the acceleration we do 9.81x3.03^45 which gives a rough estimate of 17640.00 joules at impact. Meaning that the ball was going 106km/h Making the force of the impact about a hundredth of a car crash

The cone thing happens because because you are supposed to lick the glass before it becomes a cone so you should always have your ice cream scoop before it goes onto the cone

I think the glass balls break in unique ways because the pressure needed to make a sphere is equal on all points (like a rain drop ) so when it hits impact it slices at the weakest points

Just like it magnifies the sun it is magnifying the impact to the edges of the coney joney.

If you do this video again do it in a helicopter but start from 45 metres on the small ones then go as high as you can and do the big one it should be better to break them

The vibrations cause the glass to kind of look like a liquid but still a solid so it creates ripples witch is what you see

Also I think it happens every time is because of the materials and because of that it creates the cone and the cone protects the rest of the ball

I think the glass is doing that for the same reason that you can’t crack an egg by pushing on the tips.

It forms a cone because the impact force compresses the glass at that single point, but sends shockwaves through it in a cone shape, where it deforms slightly. The shockwaves reverberate between surface and compressed core, till they cause a crack where the force emerges from the surface, and the crack propogates back into it from that point, breaking off the piece in a conchoidal (clam shell) shape. Because it's a sphere, the shape carries all the way around it, to form a cone. The multiple waves is why you get a wavy, rippling effect. It does this because the glass doesn't have a crystaline structure, nor is it entirely solid.

The cone effect happnes bc to make it u have a rod inside of it and when there all done making it they pull th rod out. Making the come effect

They break like that bc the ball is made from layering a whole bunch of glass one after the other. So when I make on little ball you let it cool than u add another later. The weight from that ball also plays a huge part in that as well. When it impacts the object (or the metal plate) it has no room th bounce. It’s suck a solid object that it can’t bounce so it just chips. Have u ever had a sucker pop and accidentally dropped it. Well same thing applies with that. It’s so solid and thick that it chips and dosnt shatter. Now windows are different because there flat.

I think it’s layers..? I’m so un-scientific lol 😂 but I think it’s layers and when it hits the ground the layers break? (My mind: Omg what did I just put that sounds so cringy lolllll)

The "coney effect" probably has something to do with the glass cooling at different rates, faster cooling on the outside slower cooling on the inside.

Am I wrong in thinking that the reason they all look the same even from different heights is the manufacturing process of making a glass ball and terminal velocity?

I aint the smartest, but I know glass physics. The reason the point upon which the glass ball hits the ground doesnt break, is due to the fact that the glass ball is solid. A Window pane itself shatters cause there isnt enough surface. But it also has to do with the fact that the glass ball is spherical. It does not break in that point, due to every possible particulate around it spreads apart the damage input. Hence why it chips and breaks off, leaving the small point, and cone styled shape on the top. Or so thats what I believe. Sorry if I am wrong
