Is he in the Butte/Deer Lodge area? I live in Southeast Idaho and drive through western Montana quite often and his view out the front of the shop looks really familiar (the mountains and whatnot). Giod idea to own a rifle and a shotgun now that you are in rural Montana. Not so much for bears, bear spray is actually more effective most of the time than a gun, especially if you are untrained as it's easy to use, you don't need to be accurate and it is an effective deterrent to begin with. But a good rifle is great for coyotes and other animals that may screw with whatever animals you may have. Also, there is some great hunting around there so you should do yourself a favor and learn.

Next time you put a grinding wheel on. You need to "ring" the wheel. Hold the wheel with your finger through it then lightly tap it with a wrench or hammer. If the wheel makes a ringing sound there are no cracks in it. If the wheel doesn't make a ringing sound throw it away.

Alec, may I toss you an idea? I recently watched the Jelly Roll Damascus and the Tomahawk video with that technique. Have you tried makume-gane but with the Jelly Roll Technique? Could we even call it makume-gane at that point if it doesn’t resemble wood at the end of the day? Nickel is expensive but it would be neat to see it done regardless. If gold wasn’t so expensive shakudo would be another neat video! Take care bud!

Virgin Will: "Legally you have to tell me if you're filming me." Chad Alec: "I actually don't." That's right, Alec. Single party consent laws for the win! Too many people don't understand single party consent laws, and their importance in society. Sure, Alec wasn't using it for it's most righteous purpose, but that doesn't change the law. For those unaware, some states are known as "single party consent states," which means that, in a conversation, only one party involved in the conversation must consent that the conversation be recorded for the conversation be legally allowed to be recorded, and thus used in court. This law allows employees to catch abusive bosses and admit the recordings of abuse in court, and allows students to record abusive teachers, and use the recording against the teacher before the school board. Annoyingly, my high school decided that they were going to ban students from recording teachers "for the teachers' privacy." When it was really to protect the abusive teachers from getting caught.

My question is one about the type of fuel best suited to a home-built forge. I rent, and so for convenience's sake (with portability for a future move in mind) I was planning on using gas for a small "coffee-can" forge I'm planning on making, but I'm not sure what gas would be best. I see most people use propane, but I've also been told acetylene works well. Which of these two gasses is better suited to a small forge that will be meant for making things like carving knives, plane irons, and chisels?
